LEAGUE LOSS AT BEDWELTY: Bedwelty 20 CRUMLIN 19

LEAGUE LOSS

Bedwelty 20 CRUMLIN 19

A great game of rugby to watch for impartials but very hard to take for everyone involved with Crumlin.

In the opening 20 minutes Bedwelty were excellent and looked by far the better team.  Their only reward though was a penalty to lead 3-0.  Crumlin put out a strong starting XV but lack of replacements meant every injury would be a minor disaster that would inevitably prove to be deceisive.

Crumlin scored 3 tries through Cerrig Wilson, Kyle Walton and Joel Walton.  Scott Barnes scored 2 conversions and the game seamed won at 19-3.

Then a big knock on by the home 10 of fully 2 metres to his own man along the floor was not seen and as the player played the ball Crumlin took the ball off him on the floor only to be penalised for not releasing?  The kick from almost the half way spot was placed into Crumlins 22 and from the lineout 2 players later Bedwelty scored.  19-10

Then a superb break from the Bedwelty number 8 on a scrum on the half way spot brought an excellent try.  Tackling was not as it should have been but still an excellent try.  19-17 and 10 minutes to go.

Crumlin could not win a decision in the last 10 minutes.  A scrum 30 metres out in the middle of the pitch and Crumlin needed to interchange their prop but were not allowed to as “this is not a break in play”.  With the injured prop forced to take part in the scrum Crumlin were understandabley turned over.  At a lineout on Bedweltys 10 metre line on the left with minutes to go a free kick was awarded as Crumlin walked in to the lineout and deamed to have taken too long.  The game winning penalty was awarded despite a clearly perfect turnover.  From the final kick off Steele Jones rose high and as the ball made the 10 metres he tipped it back into the diving hands of Euan Lewis behind him only for the ball to been adjudged to have been knocked on in the tip to the player behind him.

A remarkable win for Bedwelty who never gave up and started the game by far the better team.  They did not convert the chances early on.  Then as the game had seemingly gone they performed a stunning comeback and the kick to win it was truly brilliant.

Bedwelty 20 CRUMLIN 19

Crumlin wish Bedwelty the very best for the rest of the season and look forward to a similar level of entertainment when they come to the Kayfield in 2024.  Good Luck gentlemen.
